    Hanging Sheetrock in the Parlor

Like I said before, I always think I can do more than I actually can get done! My friend, Theda came and helped with the sheetrock, but we just didn't finish it.

Below is the built-in butler cupboard in the back hallway. I painted the inside and Adrienne filled it with plates and dishes and glasses. Cookbooks are underneath. I have yet to paint the inside of the drawers. I won't do anything the to outside of it except maybe oil it down to bring out the nice finish.

  • Slow Progress

Well, as usual I am way too optimistic! I've been traveling back and forth between Goshen, IN and Denver moving Gwen's things to our house. So, consequently I haven't been working at the house much. But today...

...and I have to tell you about the kitchen of this old house. It was added on the back of the house somewhere around 1920 or 1930. The kitchen hasn't been updated since it was added. (Something just clicked and I wonder if I wrote about this before!) The foundation has long since given way and it hangs precariously onto the main structure. The plans are that this summer we will tear off the kitchen part and build a new addition on the back.

...so today...I added these temporary cabinets until we demolish the whole thing. With the slant of the floor I had to cut off an inch and a quarter in the back to make the cabinets level! Across the width of the room, the floor drops about 3 inches! Can't wait to get started on THAT project!

I started hanging sheetrock in the living room and hope to finish that tomorrow. I'll post pics when I get it all hung.

  • Bought a house....the work is just beginning!

Gwen and I bought a house in Denver after months of looking. It is a big old (built in 1892) Denver Square with a carriage house in the back. We bought it cheap because it needs a lot of work, including a bit of foundation work. It has been in the same family since 1920 and hasn't been updated much at all. I'm going to ATTEMPT to keep a blog on the work as it progresses in the next year or so.

Gwen doesn't arrive here until the end of July and I'd love to have it done for her by then, but there's no way that will happen! Here are a few pics of the house and what I've started working at.

Oh yeah...Adrienne has come to live with me since Christmas.

The kitchen is very old...like from the 40's. It is also falling of the back end of the house. We will tear it off and build a new one.DSCN0091

  • Biking in Denver

So I biked to the office today...let me explain "office"...my newly acquired office is a table in Studio 6 Coffee House...a wonderful place to meet people, talk about art and have lively conversations with Michael, the manager of the coffee house, and professional artist. The coffee house is in the courtyard of the Nine10Arts building on Santa Fe Drive. I've been going there about 3 days a week to work on the website for Another Way....and of course have lively conversations with Michael.

Today, I have located a meeting place for Another Way! YAY!!!! We will meet in a studio at Nine10Arts beginning the first week of November. Check out our website. If you think it doesn't say much, you're right! It's a teaser site that our mass mailing folks will be directed to each week...watch for the changes!
